2006 Ocean Sciences Meeting SEACOOS Presentation - A Coordinated Coastal Ocean Observing and Modeling System for the West Florida Shelf
For the program on "Coastal Ocean Observing Systems: Regional Contributions to Goals of the Integrated Ocean Observing System," OS22F-02. The Coastal Ocean Monitoring and Prediction System (COMPS) is a real-time, web-based (http://comps.marine.usf.edu) coastal ocean observing and modeling system for the west coast of Florida. COMPS is an element of the Southeast Atlantic Coastal Ocean Observing System (SEACOOS) and is coordinated with the Southeast and Gulf of Mexico Regional Associations, SECOORA and GCOOS, respectively. In situ measurements are distributed across the shelf and remote measurements link the shelf with the adjacent deep ocean. Models are used to describe the deep-ocean/shelf interactions and the shelf/estuary interactions. Discussions will be given to some of the primary scientific findings derived from these sustained COMPS/SEACOOS measurements and models, to applications made with respect to the IOOS societal goals, and to lessons learned. * R H Weisberg.
