Modeling Working Group Agenda - SEACOOS Summer 2005 Workshop

Document Actions
SEACOOS July 2005 Workshop Modeling Working Group Agenda

During the past 6 mos, MWG teams have developed and enhanced their individual approaches to include baroclinic processes, forcing with offshore models, different domains, etc. As such, there are new model solutions and products that need to be evaluated and displayed on the SEACOOS website, or in websites that will be links within the SEACOOS site. The discussion in the WG breakout will focus on these and identify next steps that reflect such advances.

  1. Update on the status of the individual modeling efforts expanding on the morning's plenary session (15 minutes each)
    1. Shelf and domain wide modeling
      • USF (Alexander Barth)
      • UM (Inkweon Bang)
      • UNC (Brian Blanton)
    2. Applications (regional and sub-regional)
      • USF (Bob Weisberg): estuarine, shelf-estuary interactions, storm surge
      • UM (Jerome Fiechter): sediment transport & ecosystems
      • UNC (Karen Edwards): drifter trajectories and larval transport
  2. Round-table discussion of key issues and common approaches in addressing new challenges, including:
    • Baroclinic solutions (initialization, forcing, etc.)
    • Archiving model results
    • Forcing with offshore models

    • Status and plans of our real-time nowcast/forecast systems
    • Interactions with "GODAE"
    • Adoption of a regional model(s)

    • New model domains (offshore and inshore)
    • New data needs from observing system(for validation and assimlation)
  3. Posting results to website, graphical display (3D, vertical structure, etc.)
  4. Future plans and targets
