NDBC Tower DSLN7 Replaced by Buoy
The first replacement buoy for the North Carolina C-MAN stations on the condemned USCG towers was deployed this morning (3/28/2003) by CGC ELM and an NDBC field service team.
The 3-meter buoy was deployed near the Diamond Shoals tower (C-MAN DSLN7) at station 41025 and provides hourly observations of wind speed and direction, wind gust, barometric pressure, air temperature, humidity, sea surface temperature and wave height and period. The buoy, painted red and marked with number "12" also serves as a USCG Aid to Navigation. Data from the buoy is being evaluated by NDBC data analysts and is expected to be available to the NWS and other users on Saturday 3/29/2003.
The buoy for Frying Pan Shoals station FPSN7 is scheduled for early summer 2003 deployment, prior to demolition of the tower.
